About Us
Matthieu Mag is the first Haitian international Comics magazine created by Chris Marvens in 2022 ! It’s an online magazine that proposes a different type of comic series (adventure, comedy, fiction, DC, super heroes etc..).
But who is its creator?
Award Winning caricature Artist:
Hardworking drawer, Chris Marvens has worked for the oldest haitian daily Le Nouvelliste via Ticket Magazine. From Henri Deschamps editions, to the newspaper Haiti Observator and Challenges Magazine, his drawings has conquered Haiti and even the international cartoon platforms such as the International Society Of Caricature Artists (ISCA) in 2016
His caricatures reveal addiction to Smartphones, show a globe sucking a woman’s breast; long story short: He uses the cartoon as a mean of artistic expression to open up the society’s eyes about the poverty, racisms, sexism and politic problems all around the world .
“From my early childhood, my passion began. I loved watching cartoons and reading comics. Inspiration comes naturally to me and my talent has become clearer over the years,” he told during an interview. 95% self-taught, he admits to having devoured educational books and learned the basics of Corel Draw software with Teddy Kesser Mombrun, caricaturist for the daily Le Nouvelliste.
A visionary artist !
As a kid, he loved reading comics like the Mickey journal, Spirou mag etc. He always wanted to be a famous studio boss like Walt Disney, Stan Lee or Albert Uderzo. Being enough experienced now to know how to manage a comic mag well with a lot of drawers, writers in a same room working together in order to bring life to some new characters that the world need to know. Thus helping them to improve their team work and giving them good ideas so that they can create great characters and stories.
Writing National Contest
Chris Marvens had won a national text writing contest in 2008 launched by Ticket Magazine.
Illustration Awards in 2014
Chris Marvens had won a national Illustration contest about the disabled people integration in the Haitian society.
Registration in the ISCA in 2016
Chris Marvens became the first and only Haitian cartoonist to be part of the International Society Of Caricature Artists (ISCA) in 2016.
Award by the US embassy in 2017
Chris Marvens was put to the Top 20 caricature artists of Haiti by the US embassy in 2017 because of his innovation and creativity in his field.
2015
His First Book
” Marvens and his lil comics ” (translated from the french version) is the first e-book Chris Marvens made in 2015 and published on Amazon Kindle ! It’s an album made of compilation of his most iconic caricature illustrations arround the 2013-2015.
